Should I go premium? A couple of questions.

Postby thepest on Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:29 pm

Thinking of upgrading my spotify account to premium, mainly so I can use it on my phones.
Before I do though I've got a couple of questions and thought someone here might be able to help.

1. How much data does it use? One of my phones has unlimited internet but the other only has 500GB per month. I heard Spotify sends data in packages to reduce the data transfer, does it still use a lot?

2. I've got 2 phones, one for work and one for personal use, will I be able to sign into both phones with one premium account?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi thepest,

I don't use Spotify in my phone I must admit but here's my view (being as no one else has responded yet!):

1. I did a bandwidth test on the PC version some while back which suggested this should be no issue at all...Spotify seems very light on bandwidth

2. My understanding is that this would be no issue, just as you can use Spotify on different PC's with one ID (in different sessions), you should also be able to use it on different phones. I'm not aware of any "1 phone per ID" rule.

Hope that helps.

Can I add a supplementary question

If you connect 2 mobile devices then do they share the same offline playlists or does each device have its own set of offline playlists?

E.g. if on my account I have 3 playlists 1,2 and 3 and I also have an Android phone and an iPod touch both running Spotify mobile then can I have playlists 1 and 2 sync-ed for offline use on the phone and playlist 3 sync-ed for offline use on the iPod ... i.e. is the "offline" status of a playlist associated with the mobile device or with the account as a whole.

Two reasons why having it assoicated with the device would help - 1) the iPod has much more space available so could specify a set of offline playlist on that that wouldn't fit on the phone, 2) each device could be used by a different family member who could offline they're own choice of musice.

In the back of my mind the "odd" restriction of 3,333 tracks + ability to have 3 offline devices gives me some hope that offline playlists are per device as in that way you could have up to 10,0000 (ok, 9,999) different tracks over the 3 devices which seems like a much more obvious limit!
